The Detroit Lions have settled multi-year extensions with both wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and right tackle Penei Sewell. Their deals were completed last month.
The general manager of the Lions, Brad Holmes, has recently shared his thoughts on the third deal, which will be with three-time Pro Bowl quarterback, Jared Goff. According to the Detroit Free Press, Holmes is confident that the deal will be completed this summer.
He expressed, as per Detroit Free Press via WXYT-FM (97.1), “First and foremost, he’s earned an extension. It’s important, it’s a high priority for us and both sides are working really, really hard and these things just take time.”
“The whole process of budgeting and preparation and all that, that kind of goes into it, we’ve been preparing for a while. And look, in a perfect world, we’d have had all three of them done, bang, bang, bang, but these things just kind of take a while, especially with the quarterback market. But I do have faith that it’s going to get done.”
Goff joined the Lions in 2021 and holds two league records, one of which is tied with Cleveland Browns star quarterback Deshaun Watson. Holmes also shared that Goff has “performed at a high level” and that “dialogue has been consistent” considering the extension agreement.
