Veteran NFL Coach Vic Fangio Looks Forward to Finishing Career in Philadelphia

Veteran coach Vic Fangio signals the twilight of his illustrious career, mapping his endgame at Philadelphia, the city where his career in professional football first launched.

The 65-year-old Eagles’ defensive coordinator believes that his latest role with the Eagles could be his final stop in his coaching journey.

“It was exactly 40 years ago when I started my pro coaching career across the street at Veterans Stadium, and I thought it’d be cool to hopefully end it here. So 40 years later, here I am,” Fangio said. “It was a thrill for me to go to work at Veterans Stadium 40 years ago because I used to go to games there all the time, and now it’s a thrill to come back 40 years later and hopefully finish it out here.”

However, Fangio remains practical about not making any prophetic claims about his future with the Eagles. As the realities of the unpredictable nature of the sporting industry are well known to him, Fangio stated, “While I believe this may be my last coaching role, there are no guarantees”.

Before his return to Philadelphia, Fangio had a short stint at Miami city as the defensive coordinator for the Dolphins.

His 2023 season with the Dolphins, however, seemed more like a brief detour, as his association with the team lasted for just one season.

Characterized by several defensive coordinator stints, Fangio’s coaching path went through teams like the Panthers, Colts, Texans, 49ers, and Bears, post his tenure with the Saints.

His time as a head coach for the Broncos and his role as a consultant for the Eagles in 2022 added unique chapters to this inherently rich football narrative.
