The Kansas City Chiefs will be looking at pure pace when their defense of the Superbowl kicks off later this year.
The team is looking for a three-peat and have gone for speed in their quest to improve their offense after an average output in this department last time out.
Xavier Worthy was drafted in the first round and the reason was clear to see at the rookie training camp, where he turned on the after burners.
Quarterback Chris Oladikun was throwing and while Worthy missed some easy catches his gas more than made up for the basic errors.
“People were dogging him for the first day," said Oladokun.
“That"s just a welcome to the league. But Xavier is going to do really well in this offense. We"re all really excited about him. You saw what he can do in terms of spinning [defenders] at the top of routes and how explosive he is, stretching the field and his [yards-after-the catch] ability."
Worthy ran the fastest 40-yard dash time in the history of the NFL Combine, 4.21 but showed he can also run good lines.
“I feel like I can play receiver," Worthy said. “I"ve run the whole route tree, [been] disciplined, smart. … I feel like I"m ready to compete and see what"s up in Kansas City.
“I"m coming with a mentality to work hard, earn my spot and earn my spot in the locker room."
Will he be Worthy to start for the Chiefs when the season kicks off?
He will have to work his socks off because speed can only get you so far in the brutally frank world of professional football.
