Multiple reports confirm that Mike Budenholzer has accepted the head coaching position with the Phoenix Suns, marking a significant move for the franchise. Budenholzer, aged 54, steps in to replace Frank Vogel, who was relieved of his duties after just one season. Sources from ESPN and The Athletic indicate that Budenholzer’s contract spans five years.

During a recent episode of First Take, Stephen A. Smith, Kendrick Perkins, and Chiney Ogwumike shared their reactions to the dismissal of Phoenix Suns head coach Frank Vogel and discussed its impact on Kevin Durant amid ongoing coaching turnover. Notably, despite making it to the NBA Finals three times in their 56-season history, the Suns have yet to clinch a championship title.

Hailing from Holbrook, Arizona, Budenholzer brings a wealth of experience to the role, notably guiding the Milwaukee Bucks to a championship victory in 2021. It was under his leadership that the Bucks staged an impressive comeback from a 2-0 deficit to clinch the NBA Finals against none other than the Suns.

During his time with the Bucks, Budenholzer witnessed the rise of stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo, who claimed two MVP awards under his guidance, along with standout performances from players like Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday. They’ve inked a lucrative five-year deal with Mike Budenholzer, worth more than $50 million. Budenholzer brings a wealth of experience to the table, having been named NBA Coach of the Year twice during his career and amassing an impressive overall record of 484-317.  Now, in Phoenix, he’ll be tasked with harnessing the talents of players like Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker to propel the Suns to greater heights.
