NBA legend Michael Jordan made a surprise visit to his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina, for the grand opening of a medical clinic he funded with a $10 million donation.
Joined by his mother, Deloris, Jordan celebrated the inauguration of the Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic, marking the third such facility they have established in North Carolina.

The clinic, which provides primary healthcare services, aims to cater to “individuals who are uninsured or underinsured,” according to a statement from the clinic.
Jordan emphasized the importance of accessible healthcare for all in a press release, stating,
“Everyone is worthy of access to quality health care, no matter where you live or if you have insurance.”
Moved to tears, the NBA legend expressed his gratitude to the Charlotte-area community for their support of the clinics and their dedication to providing quality care to those in need.
Jordan highlighted the pivotal role played by the success of the two existing clinics, which paved the way for the establishment of the new facility in his hometown.
“When the families are not able to support, we are there to support,” Jordan emotionally stated at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The newly opened Wilmington clinic boasts 12 patient rooms and will operate from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, according to a press release.
Ann Caulkins, senior vice president of Novant Health and president of Novant Health foundations, expressed profound gratitude to Michael Jordan for his philanthropic efforts in addressing health equity gaps.
Caulkins noted the significant impact of the existing clinics in Charlotte, which provided over 9,000 patient visits last year, and expressed excitement about expanding this model to Wilmington, where the clinic team aims to deliver life-changing care.
