“I feel like every rookie gotta earn their number” Rookie Tight End Ja’Tavion Sanders Eager to Earn Jersey Number with Carolina Panthers

The two-time first-team All-Big 12 tight end, Ja’Tavion Sanders, was selected in the 2024 NFL Draft in the fourth round as the 101st pick. He was picked by the Carolina Panthers.

The rookie tight end, however, has not yet received the jersey number he had hoped for and he participated in the rookie minicamp for the second time on Saturday.

Sanders recently spoke to the media and was questioned about his jersey number 0, which he wore when he played with the Texas Longhorns and his thoughts on earning the number. He stated, as per the Carolina Panthers, “Oh yeah, no doubt. I feel like every rookie gotta earn their number. I knew I wasn’t gonna have 0 coming in, so I’ve already had that mindset knowing what I gotta do. Come in, put the work in, day in, day out to earn that number.”

He further added, “I told everybody I’m trying to be the next Greg Olsen here.”

Sanders, in his collegiate career, impressively posted 1,295 receiving yards and 99 catches, including seven touchdowns. Regarding Olsen, the former prominent talent of Panthers, the rookie tight end also mentioned, “He was one of the tight ends to change the game.”

Greg Olsen, who had a prominent career in professional football played nine seasons with the Panthers and achieved three Pro Bowl honors. He posted 524 receptions, 6,463 yards, and thirty-nine touchdowns during his time in Carolina.
