The William V. Campbell Trophy winner of 2023, quarterback Bo Nix, was picked up by the Denver Broncos in the first round as the 12th pick. The Oregon prospect has shown an impressive performance in the rookie minicamp, attracting positive views from head coach Sean Payton.
He mentioned, as per Pro Football Talk, "No, it’s been exactly what we saw. The only thing that I can think about that I was a little bit surprised is when we went to work him out privately and stood around him, he was bigger than I expected. But nothing in the last two days. He’s doing well."
The head coach continued, "He had two or three down-the-field throws today. It’s almost like watching a good golfer. Sometimes when you watch his game over two years, there’s a patience to how he plays. The ball comes out, and — I don’t want to use the term ‘boring,’ that’s not the right term, but [he makes] pretty good decisions. With each play, the efficiency of how he’s operating, and all of that."

Payton also shared, "So much of it is huddle, snap count, break the huddle, under center, shotgun, it"s a process. He"s handling the install well, he had a pretty good practice today, he"s grinding through it, he"s doing good with it."
The head coach continued to shed light on the squad’s requirements and how Nix is a talented piece that will fit into their schemes. Focusing on the qualities the Broncos are looking for in a quarterback, he mentions, "We’ve always valued that in the position, players that can create. You go back to Steve Young. So it’s our game a little bit, relative to protections and when the pocket gets a little muddy, the ability for the quarterback to move some, move a lot, and make the right decisions. That’s the same for Zach Wilson, it’s going to be the same for Jarrett [Stidham]. Those guys have good movement skills. So it’s a trait we look for."
The SEC Freshman of the Year, Nix, shared his sentiments, stating as per NFL Network, "Can"t believe I get to wear a Broncos jersey and go out there and do what so many greats have done before me. I don"t take that lightly and I"m not gonna take it for granted. Obviously, pressure gives you opportunities, so the more pressure and responsibility you have, just the more that you have to go out there and consistently earn it."
Nix played with Auburn Tigers Football from 2019 to 2021 and then joined the Oregon Ducks Football, with whom he played from 2022 to 2023.
