“That’s not going to be his role” Ezekiel Elliott Set for Transformed Role with Dallas Cowboys in Upcoming NFL Season

The three-time Pro Bowl running back of the Dallas Cowboys, Ezekiel Elliott will be having a transformed role in the upcoming NFL season with the squad with whom he earlier played from 2016 to 2022.

He has signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys and the head coach Mike McCarthy has shared his opinions on what kind of role the prominent running back who has posted 8,904 rushing yards till now, will have stating as per Pro Football Talk, “I don’t think that’s fair. The guy carried the ball more than anybody in the history of football in the first couple years. That’s not going to be his role. We’re running back by committee, but I think he’ll definitely play at the level that he’s played, I know, in my time here. I anticipate that. I don’t see any drop off in the way he moves.”

The head coach mentioned that it is expected that the running back carry the majority of the ball, however, it is not possible in the current structure of the NFL.

He further continued, “I grew up with the feature running back. They’d all like to carry it like those days and have those touches, but you want those guys fresh at the most important time of the year.”

Elliott concluded his 2023 season with registering 184 carries on 642 rushing yards with 3.5 average yards per carry. His receiving yards were 313 including two touchdowns. He is expected to accomplish more as once again he has joined the squad who picked him in the first round as the 4th overall pick in 2016 NFL Draft.
