It has been just over three months since the Washington Commanders named Dan Quinn as the man to lead the franchise forward and the veteran head coach in already causing a stir.
Quinn appeared at a press conference this week wearing a t-shirt with the Commanders “W” that had two feathers sticks out of the side, similar to the ones used in the team’s old logo.
Prior to the 2020 season, the ownership dropped their old controversial name in favor of the Washington Commanders. They even used the unoriginal placeholder name of “Washington Football Team” for a while before settling on the Commanders. The name was supposed to usher in a new era in the team’s history but Quinn’s recent wardrobe choice has many wondering if the organization is considering returning to their former team name.
Commanders have no comment on Dan Quinn's not-officially-licensed T-shirt incorporating the old logo. Quinn apparently acted on his own and without team knowledge or involvement. https://t.co/tmQ9yChYSL

In a recent piece from Pro Football Talk, NFL analyst Mike Florio reported that the Washington Commanders had “no organizational comment” on the issue and that it was his understanding that the head coach wore the t-shirt without the team’s knowledge.
Florio goes on to state that the fact that the apparel is not officially licensed by the NFL could create further problems from the organization.
There is no evidence to suggest that the Washington Commanders are looking to rebrand or return to their old logo. In August 2023, Commanders president Jason Wright stated that returning to the old name was “not being considered. Period.”
