FOX will replace Friday Night Smackdown with United Football League (UFL) matches – giving the Spring league more power to succeed

The United Football League is set to get a boost with news that FOX Sports will include Friday night games out of college football season.

The UFL will replace WWE’s Smackdown which is moving to the USA Network in middle September, a month ahead of intended departure.

That means FOX needs to air sport and the Spring targeted UFL is seen as a good bet.

The UFL will benefit the most and could even earn a second season. This in light of many other such Soring football ventures failing.

The UFL is comprised of eight teams and is a summation of an XFL and USFL merge.

The league has a few big-name venture partners as it will broadcast 31 games, including 21 on Fox.

The network also owns a 50% share in the new venture while Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Redbird Capital’s Gerry Cardinale, round out the ownership group.

The loss of Smackdown may prove fortuitous in the long run for FOX and the success of the ambitious UFL.

Will it bring viewers? Will it breed potential NFL stars? The questions are soon to be answered.
