"The story of the Golden State Valkyries begins now. And what better way than to be surrounded and supported by Bay Area legends as we take our rightful place in the WNBA and beyond."

Jess Smith, who is the president of the Golden State Valkyries, mentioned, as per the WNBA, “The story of the Golden State Valkyries begins now. And what better way than to be surrounded and supported by Bay Area legends as we take our rightful place in the WNBA and beyond. This is the Bay’s time to show what’s possible with the best fans in the world.”
It was announced last year, in October, that the Golden State affiliate franchise would join the WNBA in 2025. With the addition of the Valkyries, the league has expanded once again since 2008, when it added the Atlanta Dream.
The name has taken its inspiration from Norse mythology, as the Valkyries are warrior women who are “fearless and unwavering – flying through air and sea alike”. The name is a modern representation that signals courage, boldness, and ferociousness.
The logo’s outer shape is V, depicting V of the Valkyries, further symbolizing the unity of the group. The team will play all the home games at the San Francisco Chase Center. The symbolism of the sword is depicted in the logo, which showcases the weapons of Valkyries in mythology.
The thirteen lines inside the logo represent the 13th team, which is added to the WNBA. Whereas the violet color of the logo represents aspiration, bravery, and women’s strength and leadership.
