The Packers organization disclosed the decision to place Jones on the “reserve/retire” list earlier this week.
This move, while unexpected, allows the Packers to maintain Jones’ contract rights should he choose to return to the game in the future.
They can also opt to place him on waivers, potentially opening the door for other NFL franchises to make a claim on his talents.

During his tenure with the Wolverines, Jones earned his stripes as a formidable force on the field, accumulating approximately 1,000 snaps primarily at the right tackle position.
Hailing from Loganville, Georgia, Jones entered the collegiate scene as a highly touted prospect, ranked among the top offensive tackles nationally by On3’s 2019 industry Rankings.
Jones’ legacy is not only defined by his prowess on the gridiron but also by his memorable post-game gesture following Michigan’s decisive victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2023.
His planting of the Michigan flag at the heart of Ohio Stadium became emblematic of his competitive spirit and dedication to his alma mater.
Despite his promising prospects in the NFL, Jones’ retirement marks a departure from the path many envisioned for the rising star.
His versatility and potential to contribute across multiple positions on the offensive line made him a valuable asset for the Packers, who signed him as an undrafted rookie from Michigan.
