On March 30, 2024, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run crash on Central Expressway in Dallas, Texas. Reports indicate he was speeding in a Lamborghini with another driver, Teddy Knox, in a Corvette. The two high-end sports cars caused a chain-reaction crash involving four other vehicles. Rice was allegedly speeding at 119 mph before the crash.
Four people sustained minor injuries in the crash. Rice and Knox are facing serious charges, including one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury.
Next, Rice turned himself in to police. The two men are also being sued for at least $10 million by victims of the crash.Rice’s attorney claims it was a mistake and that Rice regrets the incident. As of May 16, there haven’t been reports on the resolution of the criminal case or civil lawsuit.
Teddy Knox, the other driver involved, was a student at Southern Methodist University and has been suspended from the football team.
This incident has resulted in serious legal trouble for Rice and raised questions about his future with the NFL.
Now, former NFL star, Cam Newton’s has addressed Rashee Rice directly in a recent episode of his podcast, “4th & 1 with Cam Newton”. Newton criticized Rice’s recent actions, which could lead to a suspension from the NFL. He urged Rice to focus on football and avoid distractions that could jeopardize his career. Newton also spoke about the importance of opportunity in the NFL. Basically, Cam was suggesting that the league can easily replace players who make bad decisions.
Cam Newton is a veteran NFL quarterback with 11 seasons under his belt in the NFL. He holds the record for most career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback and ranks second in rushing yards.
Newton’s college career was outstanding. After transferring to Auburn, he led them to a National Championship and won the Heisman Trophy in 2010. This success carried over as he was drafted first overall by the Carolina Panthers in 2011. He spent most of his career with the Panthers, and his highlight season was 2015 where he earned league MVP honors and led Carolina to a Super Bowl appearance.
Recently, Newton has bounced around a bit. He played for the New England Patriots in 2020 and returned to the Panthers for a brief stint in 2021. As of today, May 16, 2024, Newton is a free agent. It remains to be seen if he’ll suit up for another team in the upcoming season.
