“You want to come coach this team? Can’t be any worse.” – Portland Timbers announcer caught in hot mic moment, as team trails Earthquakes at break, but Phil Neville’s team go on to win the game

Dissenting commentary on air is part for the course but hot mic moments live on in memory.

Portland Timbers radio announcer Adam Susman owned up to his off-air comments, with the team trailing 2-0 against the San Jose Earthquakes in Wednesday night MLS game.

“Steven, you want to come coach this team?” the radio announcer asked a colleague at the break. “You want to come coach this team? Can’t be any worse.”

Susman thought they had cut to an advert but his comments must have stirred soccer karma, as the team scored 4 unanswered second half goals to prevail 4-2.

Coach Phil Neville of the Timbers must be smiling into his ale, as he showed that announcers should announcer and coaches should be left to do their work unaided by searing hot scorn from the commentary booth.

Chalk up a win for the coach.
