Harrison Butker’s commencement speech at Benedictine College in 2024 was a controversial one. Butker spoke about living a life centered around the Catholic faith. He encouraged graduates to be “unapologetically Catholic” and resist societal pressures that might contradict their beliefs.

He addressed women specifically and suggested their greatest fulfillment comes from roles like wife and mother.

Butker also criticized “bad policies” and “degenerate cultural values” without explicitly naming them. Apparently, it was a disapproval of LGBTQ+ rights and abortion.

Once the speech went viral, the majority of the people found it offensive and outdated, particularly the comments on gender roles and social issues commentary.

FYI, the speech wasn’t affiliated with the NFL, and the league distanced itself from his views.

Now, Gracie Hunt, the daughter of Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt and granddaughter of team founder Lamar Hunt has defended kicker Harrison Butker in the wake of his controversial commencement address at Benedictine College. When asked about Butker’s statements, Gracie expressed her respect for his Christian faith and his accomplishments both on and off the field.

On Friday, during an interview on FOX News. Gracie Hunt said:

“I can only speak from my own experience, which is I had the most incredible mom who had the ability to stay home and be with us as kids growing up.”

She added:

“And I understand that there are many women out there who can’t make that decision but for me in my life, I know it was really formative in my shaping me and my siblings to be who we are.”

Gracie continued:

“I really respect Harrison and his Christian faith and what he’s accomplished on and off the field.”

Well, although Gracie’s comments don’t necessarily represent the entire organization, they provide insight into the Hunt family’s stance on the matter.

Harrison Butker’s contract with the Kansas City Chiefs

Harrison Butker signed a 5-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 worth a total of $20.275 million. The contract included a signing bonus and guaranteed money of around $9.1 million. He also receives a per-game roster bonus on top of his base salary.

This deal runs through the 2024 season, meaning he’s currently in the final year. With the Chiefs looking to manage their salary cap, they’ll need to decide whether to extend him again or look for a replacement kicker.

I'm honestly saying this as a Chiefs fan, I hope they lose every single game they play this year. Like, I like Patrick Mahoms and Travis Kelce… but, I actually want them to lose if they even THINK about using Butker this year.
