The Minnesota Vikings will open their 2024 season with a rare match-up against the New York Giants at the MetLife Stadium and will want to keep their winning record against the team from the Big Apple.
The Vikings had a losing 7-10 record last campaign but with a good start, this may be an opportunity for a playoff run.
The Vikings are 18-13 against the Giants and have a home record of 9-6 and will want to start the 2024 season off with a resounding win. They scraped by the Giants 27-24 when the teams last met on Dec. 24, 2022.
The Vikings, who had an underwhelming 2023 campaign will next take on the Superbowl finalists the San Francisco 49ers at CitiBank Stadium and they will be looking to go back-to-back after defeating the 49ers 22-17 in October last year.
There is no reason to believe Minnesota need fear San Francisco and with a career 24-25-1 record, the game will come down to a couple of points.
The Vikings then take on the Texans in week 3, another tough challenge as the Houston team is tipped to go far in 2024, and the U.S. Bank Stadium could see a surprise on the cards. The Vikings have only played the Texans 5 times, and have won all five encounters, the last a 31-23 win in 2020. With Stefon Diggs, Joe Mixon and Danielle Hunter, the Texans look likely to break their Vikings curse.
In game 4 the Vikings travel to the Lambeau Field to take on traditional rivals the Green Bay the Packers, who are fresh off a great 2023 campaign.
The Vikings go into the game with head-to-head stats slightly favoring Green Bay at 58-66-3. The packers also sent the Vikings packing last season with a comfortable 30-10 win. But the Vikings did win their last encounter at Green Bay, 24-10 on Oct. 29, 2023.
This is a toss-up.
In week 5 Minnesota tackle the Jets, who should have QB Aaron Rodgers on deck and firing missiles. NY were poor last season but that had plenty to do with a lack of depth at QB. The game will be played in London which could be a neutralizing factor given the Jets hold an advantage over them winning 8 and losing 4 of their past 12 encounters.
The schedule is set, the fixtures as tough as teak, and at this stage Minnesota will do well to be 3-2.
