The Raiders are set to give the first snap to Aiden O’Connell despite the arrival of Gardner Minshew.
The battle for the quarterback spit in Las Vegas is set to be close though but O’Connell finished as the starter last season and Antonio Pierce is a fan of backing continuity.
“Since really AP started, he’s put a lot of confidence in me,” O’Connell told Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “He’s given me a great opportunity. I’m just trying to make the most of the opportunity. It really is a privilege and an opportunity to get to play on the team and get reps at the quarterback position.”
The first snap will not determine the season, but it at least points to Pierce’s way of coaching and rewarding consistency, and O’Connell will be desperate to prove him right.
