Scottie Scheffler’s attorney Steve Romines shared with ESPN on Monday that his arraignment in Louisville has been postponed to next month, despite objection from the county attorney.
The 27-year-old world’s top-ranked golfer was arrested last Friday morning while driving to Valhalla Golf Club to prepare for his second round of the PGA Championship.
He faced multiple charges out of Jefferson County following Friday involving an officer outside the PGA Championship. It sparked off after an altercation between Scheffler and an officer about getting around traffic, per the police.
Police say they tried to give Scheffler instructions that he ignored, while Scheffler claimed there was a misunderstanding about what he was told to do.
Scheffler is now facing multiple charges from the incident that took place before the second round, though No Laying Up reported Sunday the charges are expected to be dropped.
He will be facing charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic.
The delay in arraignment is due to a conflict in Romines’ schedule. The world No. 1 will enter a plea of not guilty and is not required to be at the arraignment, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday.
The motion to continue the arraignment was granted on Monday by the district judge presiding over the case, despite objections from Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell.
The episode of arrest unfolded for not following police orders while police were investigating a pedestrian fatality after a man had been struck by a shuttle bus taking fans to the tournament.
