NCAA: Football Week 2 Picks

It’s always nice to start out a new venture on the right foot. A clean sweep last week has us rolling into week two.

Week two is overreaction city. This team beat that team, this team scored a billion points last week, this team is terrible, this team is unstoppable. Pump the breaks, take a deep breath and realize we are one week in. Teams had the entire offseason to get ready for that matchup, that’s months of prep, now they get days. Let’s see if we can’t find some winners.

Army vs Michigan

Line: Michigan -22.5 O/U 47

The Wolverines cashed for us last week. It wasn’t easy but considering they turned it over twice inside the 1yd line, we’ll take it. This week they face Army and it’s a triple-option attack. I know they “only beat Rice by 7” but as I said above, Rice had all offseason to prepare for the option. The Black Knights were also missing their bruising FB. Ask a defensive coordinator that faces the option and they all will you tell the same thing, “it all starts with the FB”. He is back this week. I’ll take a 3+ touchdown head start with a team riding the second-longest winning streak in FBS.

PICK: ARMY +22.5 (.5 unit)

Nebraska vs Colorado

Line: Nebraska -4 O/U 64.5

Scott Frost came to Nebraska to jump-start the offense into the 21st century, that didn’t happen last week. Nebraska dropped 35 but had 3 defensive scores and a terrible offensive showing. Adrain Martinez and company should find their footing this week against a Colorado defense that got shredded for 505 yards last week. The Buffs have some firepower of their own in Laviska Senault Jr. who is a matchup nightmare that Colorado moves all over the field. When an offensive guy like Frost has a terrible performance like last week, you know he going back to the drawing board and putting up some points this week. I like a shootout in Boulder.

PICK: OVER 64.5 (.5 unit)

Miami Vs North Carolina

Line: Miami -4 O/U 47.5

The Canes had a week to lick their wounds after blowing their week zero matchup against Florida. North Carolina celebrated their win over South Carolina like it was the national championship. North Carolinas freshman QB had the benefit of 200+ rushing yards last week to keep the pressure off him. The stingy Canes defense will have none of that this week. This is a big game for Miami, they can’t start out 0-1 in conference play. I hate playing against home night dogs but the Canes are the better squad in my eyes, had extra time to prepare, and absolutely need this one.

PICK: Miami -4 (1 unit)

Best of luck everyone! Let’s see if we can’t keep it rolling into week 2. Don’t forget to stop over at overtimeheroics.net and sign up for the forums and give us your thoughts!
