Brown’s Keys to Victory over Seahawks

The Browns head home after a beat down in the bay area by the 49ers. Their next opponent? The 4-1 Seattle Seahawks come to town off a last-second win over the LA Rams. Let’s get to the Brown’s keys to victory over the Seahawks.

Consistency with the Running Game

Brown's Keys to Victory

I am tired of sounding like a broken record, but the Browns NEED to ride the running game more than ever. The offense has been most effective when Nick Chubb is a big part of what they are doing. Even with another in a line of highly ranked run defenses coming in, they need to stick with Nick Chubb. As stated in one of my first articles written for overtime heroics, he is the quiet, hard-working engine providing the steam for what was expected to be a powerhouse offense. We have yet to see that explosive offense, but Nick Chubb has been everything you could want this season. Freddie Kitchens said he needs to be a more significant part of the attack. He was for one week against the Ravens. It MUST be every week.

Slow Russell Wilson

For all the talk from Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll about getting back to being the run-oriented offense they were. Russell Wilson is still the heart of that Seahawks offense. He can beat with his feet or his arm at any moment. Wilson will use the ball-control offense to lull the defense to sleep then hit Tyler Lockett or DK Metcalf for a big play. This old school attack is what the Seahawks do, and it has worked to the tune of a 4-1 start. The Browns defense will once again need to be extra disciplined, or it could get ugly again. In this case, it is because of one of the most dangerous playmakers in Wilson instead of an offensive scheme. The Browns will be in great shape if they can contain Russell Wilson Sunday. A couple of turnovers wouldn’t hurt either.

Baker Mayfield

Brown's Keys to Victory

The Seahawks defensive backfield is the 26th ranked pass defense at 270.6 yards per game. The only secondary Baker faced that is worse this year, the Baltimore Ravens. Against those Ravens, Baker was 20/30 for 342 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Can this be a repeat performance? Will OBJ finally break out with a big game? The Seahawks have a strong front seven but have struggled at times on defense. Baker Mayfield needs to step up and have his best performance of the year if the Browns are to steal a win. The offensive passing game has a chance for a big day. It’s time to see more of that Kitchens magic that has been few and far between this year.

Prediction

The Browns looked lost on Monday night against one of the best defense in the NFL right now. The Seahawks boast a great offense with Russell Wilson leading the way, but the defense is still finding its way. This game is a winnable for the Cleveland Browns regardless of what the records say. The Browns will shock the NFL Sunday with a close win over the Seahawks 31-28 for their third victory of the year.
