Kirby Dach Set to Play In NHL Debut Tonight

Stan Bowman shocked most Blackhawks fans when selecting Kirby Dach #3 overall in the 2019 NHL Draft. Most of us would’ve thought maybe he would have taken either Bowen Byram or Alex Turcotte, but that was not the case. Since he took him, Blackhawks fans have been waiting and waiting to see how their #3 overall pick plays out on the ice and see why Bowman took him. Ever since Dach sustained a concussion during the Traverse City Prospect Tournament, he’s been out. He missed most of training camp, and didn’t play in any preseason games for the Blackhawks.

His Game

Before the 2019-20 NHL season started, the Blackhawks ended up sending Dach down to Rockford for conditioning purposes. He would make his pro debut that same night.

19-year-old Dach made his pro debut with the Rockford Icehogs and got to play with Nick Moutrey and Brandon Hagel.

“First shift, shift and a half, I felt nervous, to be honest for my first pro game, so I just tried to step back and see what it was all about. I was able to feel comfortable and make plays, but there are things in my game that I need to clean up to be better and be able to play at the next level.”

Head Coach of the Rockford Icehogs, Derek King said after his first game, “I was really impressed by what I saw from the youngster” and also said that he’d like it if Dach stayed in Rockford the whole year. Dach only spent three games down in Rockford before being called up. As the Blackhawks defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets, Blackhawk fans had more to cheer about. Stan Bowman and the Blackhawks officially announced that they have recalled Dach.

Does this mean that Blackhawks fans will finally get to see Kirby Dach Sunday vs Washington? We won’t know until after morning skate, but I think it’s that time because they wouldn’t have called him back up if he wasn’t ready for NHL game action.

Could we see him make his debut Tuesday against Vegas? Or Thursday against Philadelphia? Anything is likely, I just think that it’ll definitely be within the next couple of games.

Where Does He Fit With the Hawks?

Since Dach is naturally a center, He should obviously play center, but wouldn’t be surprised if coach Colliton put him on the wing. With the Blackhawks having the luxury of roster depth it gives Colliton creativity when trying to find a spot for Dach.

Personally I think a 3rd line of Saad-Dach-Kubalik sounds very intriguing. Or, you can try DeBrincatToews-Dach, As I said with the Blackhawks having roster depth it gives coach Colliton the flexibility to be creative and find a spot for everyone.

Sunday morning right before the Blackhawks face-off against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals, the Blackhawks have announced that third overall pick, Kirby Dach will make his NHL debut.

Let me know what you think the lines should look like for Kirby Dach’s NHL debut @WindyCity1015 and also follow me on twitter to keep up and to know when I post an article.
