NHL Player Safety has determined St. Louis Blues defensemen Robert Bortuzzo will be suspended for four games. Bortuzzo laid an unquestionably dirty hit against Viktor Arvidsson in Saturday’s game against the Nashville Predators. As a result of the play Arvidsson will miss 4-6 weeks in what is a big blow to the Predators. This is of course isn’t his first suspension. Just last season Bortuzzo was suspended for two preseason games and the regular season opener after elbowing Michal Kempny in the head. He was also suspended in 2014 for two games after a high hit on Jaromir Jagr.
St. Louis Blues Robert Bortuzzo Suspended For Four Games

Effect of Bortuzzo Being Suspended
Bortuzzo has one assist in 11 games games played this season. Last season for the Blue note he had 10 points in 59 games. In the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs Bortuzzo contributed two goals in 17 games. This season he has found himself up in the press box quite a bit. After the Blues acquisition of Justin Faulk his spot on the right side has been in doubt.
He will be set to return in the Blue games against the Chicago Blackhawks on December 2nd. The Blues next four games include a three game road trip with visits to Nashville, Tampa Bay and Dallas and then a home game against Pittsburgh. For a team loaded with injuries this was quite frankly a boneheaded play by Bortuzzo.
Effect of Arvidsson’s Injury
On the Nashville side this is going to hurt. They ended a six game losing streak in their win over the Blues but are slumping quite a bit. They sit at just 10-9-3 on the season. Currently they are three points out of a playoff spot but have games in hand on everyone. The Predators have only played 22 games which is the least amount in the Western Conference. Now they will have to start piling up some points while missing one of their top scorers. Arvidsson has 15 points on the season with six goals and nine assists. His corsi rating is 56.1 which is good but sits just middle of the pack on a Predators team that has some good possession numbers. The Predators start the Arviddson-less stretch with another games against the Blues on Monday.
