Canucks Advent Day 2: Top 25 Players Of The 2010’s

With Christmas on the horizon and and the decade coming to a close, it is the perfect time to count down the best Canucks of the 2010’s. This is the Canucks Advent Calendar.

Each day until Christmas I will rank one player until we have the top 25 of the 2010’s. These Vancouver icons will be ranked on their statistics, impact on the city and overall play during their time with Vancouver. Rankings will be based on the player’s Vancouver tenure during the 2010’s only, prior seasons with the team will make little impact to the rankings.

Statistics: 207 GP, 42 G, 41 A, 83 PTS

Thus far, Brandon Sutter‘s Canucks tenure has been tainted by constant injury. With this being said, he has stuck with the team during some of the their toughest times in the history of the organization. Not only has Sutter been around for the past five seasons, he has been a leader for younger, inexperienced players to lean on.

Since February of 2017 Brandon Sutter has served as assistant captain for the Vancouver Canucks. He has been a veteran presence on a team filled with younger talent looking to find their way. Brandon Sutter is a player who contributes in ways that don’t tend to show up on a stat-sheet. His highest scoring season in Vancouver clocked out at 34 points in 81 games.

Regardless of he can score at a high rate, Sutter knows how to pull his weight on the roster. He is an exceptional penalty killer and is a crucial defensive asset centering the third line. Brandon Sutter can consistently stay out of the penalty box and isn’t afraid to get in front of a shot. Even though he is frequently injured, Sutter has led Vancouver’s forwards in blocked shots during two separate seasons.

Sutter is signed through to the end of next season. This means he will be looking to perform well in order to secure an NHL spot. At age 30 and with injuries accumulating, we may be seeing the last few years of Brandon Sutter in Vancouver. Although he hasn’t taken the Canucks on a playoff run, Sutter has stayed with Vancouver and has remained loyal during tough times. Sutter’s loyalty, leadership and defensive prowess have earned him the 24 spot on this list.
