On a trade deadline that saw many players change teams, New York and Los Angeles have agreed on a deal. The Knicks trade Marcus Morris to the Clippers, for Maurice Harkless and a 2020 first-round pick. Additionally, the Clippers are sending Jerome Robinson to Washington for Isaiah Thomas. However, the Clippers will not keep Thomas, according to David Aldridge.
Knicks trade Morris to Clippers

The Clippers will not be keeping Isaiah Thomas, acquired today from Washington in three-team deal with Knicks that brought Marcus Morris to LA and send Moe Harkless/picks to NYC, per league source.

Incredibly, this move comes from a Knicks front office that fired team president Steve Mills, only two days ago. Earlier this season, the Knicks front office also fired David Fizdale as head coach. In addition to the Clippers’ first round pick in 2020, the Knick have the rights to swap first round picks in 2021. The Knicks also received a second round pick in 2021, originally from Detroit.
The Knicks had been engaged in trade talk with the Los Angeles Lakers, before reaching agreement with the Clippers. The Lakers, however, appear to have lost out on Morris because of their commitment to keeping Kyle Kuzma. Morris was leading the Knicks in scoring with a career high 19.6 points per game. He is currently 5th in the NBA in three point shooting percentage at 43.9%. Morris will certainly help the Clippers bolster their bench, as they compete for top seed in the West.
Meanwhile, this move serves to help the Knicks going forward, as they continue their long rebuild. First, this move helps to once again give the Knicks cap space. Morris, who is making $15 million this season, is due to be a free agent this summer. Second, following last season’s blockbuster trade that sent Kristaps Porzingis to Dallas, the Knicks will now have two first round picks in both 2020 and 2021. Ultimately, both franchises get what they wanted as the Knicks trade Morris to the Clippers.
