Per reports, cornerback Jalen Mills will be returning to the Philadelphia Eagles next season. The deal is reported to be worth 5M for one season.
Jalen Mills Back to Philly on a One Year Deal
However, the Eagles intend to use Mills as a hybrid cornerback and safety going forward. With Rodney McLeod Jr. expected to leave, the move makes sense as the Eagles need secondary help. A move like this has worked before, most notably Devin McCourty with the New England Patriots. Now the pressure will be on Mills to step for Jim Schwartz’ defense in 2020.
Mills had the best season of his career in 2017, before suffering a torn ACL in 2018. After missing much of the season, Mills returned for the back half of 2019, and played well.
Despite the signing of Mills, the Eagles still need secondary help. Malcolm Jenkins is also expected to move on, and the Eagles’ cornerback play was abysmal last season. It will be interesting to see how Howie Roseman can address the situation going forward this offseason.
