Dallas Cowboys to sign Gerald Mccoy

Defensive lineman Gerald Mccoy has agreed to join the Dallas Cowboys.

The contract is a three-year deal worth up to 20.25 million dollars. This is the third team in three years for Mccoy. Starting after he was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the 2018 season. He floundered for the Panthers in 2019, who signed him to a one year, ten million dollar deal. He only went on to register six sacks as a Panther.

The Dallas Cowboys will be a perfect fit for Gerald Mccoy.

The team opted not to resign Mccoy after a down year from the five-time all-pro. The 32-year-old Mccoy has been an absolute terror from the defensive tackle position, having racked up 59.5 sacks throughout his ten-year career. This is where he projects with Dallas, and where he best fits throughout his career.

His struggles in Carolina can likely be attributed to his position change, as he went to a defensive end in Carolina’s 3-4 scheme last year. This is a massive get for Dallas, as they will plug a significant need inside on the defensive line. Dallas has now stacked their defensive line now, with Mccoy joining Demarcus Lawrence to form a great pass rushing duo for the Dallas Cowboys.

Carolina Will Need Help

This loss leaves Carolina in dire straights on the defensive front. They have now lost starters Mccoy, Vernon Butler, Mario Addison, and Bruce Irvin to free agency. They now have to make a move to add more to the pass rush. Carolina has only signed Stephen Weatherly on the defensive front. They need to bolster their front if they want to compete in 2020.
