The LA Chargers Have the Best Cornerback Duo

The LA Chargers had an outstanding pass defense in 2019 which was fifth-best in the NFL. They only allowed 200.5 yards on average a game although allowed a few long balls in losing situations. The Chargers fixed a solid cornerback situation and turned it into one of the best this offseason.

The LA Chargers Go For the Big Signing

The big winning sign on defense was former Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr. Over ten teams have been eyeing him although not many want to pay him the big bucks. The Chargers had space, therefore, struck gold with a very good deal for all parties. The 31-year-old signed a two-year 20 million dollar contract. He is a four-time Pro-Bowler and was a first-team All-Pro 2016. He has 518 tackles along with 4.5 sacks. Chris Harris Jr. also recorded 20 interceptions with 90 pass deflections.

The Chargers Duo

The Chargers now have veteran Casey Hayward and new addition Chris Harris Jr. just to add fuel to the fire, they have a young Desmond King that can play slot corner.

Casey Hayward has been in the league for eight seasons now although he didn’t get his fame till he went to the Chargers in 2016. He has two Pro Bowls in 2016 and 2017 along with two second-team All-Pro. He also led the league in interceptions in 2016. For his career he has 22 interceptions and 92 pass breakups.

On March 11, 2018, the Los Angeles Chargers signed Hayward to a three-year, $33.25 million contract extension that includes $20 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $8 million. The contract is worth up to $36 million with incentives and keeps Hayward under contract through the 2021 season.

The LA Chargers have a long road because of that dreadful 5-11 season. There should be no excuses for as many long balls that would mean the game. They have two shutdown cornerbacks that could very well be the best duo in the NFL.
