WWE announced on Monday that WrestleMania will not be held in Tampa, Florida and, instead, will take place in the WWE Performance Center with no live audience.
Wrestlemania relocated
The new COVID-19 guidelines outlined by President Trump encourage to limit crowds to ten people and under.
WWE released a statement, in part, saying: “In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place.”
The relocation of the show of shows is a huge loss for WWE, its fans, and the city of Tampa. WrestleMania is a spectacle where fans come from all over the world to witness arguably the best show in sports entertainment.
The crowd is going to be greatly missed at WrestleMania. This is one of the most stacked WrestleMania cards of recent memory. We won’t be able to hear the controversial reactions to stars like John Cena, Roman Reigns, and Goldberg. We also won’t be able to witness the roar of the crowd for superstars like Edge, the Undertaker, and the Hall of Fame inductees entering this year.
Out of all the shows, the crowd reactions are most needed during WrestleMania and the Raw after WrestleMania. It’s most likely there will be no live audience for the Raw after Mania. It would be such a shame because there will be many returning superstars and the crowd chants during that show are so exhilarating.
It is also unfortunate for the superstars. This includes Royal Rumble Match winner, Drew McIntyre. The Scotland native clawed his way to the top after being fired by the company. McIntyre is getting his first opportunity to win the WWE Championship when he faces Brock Lesnar in the main event. McIntyre has become a major face of the company and the fans have taken his side and enjoy his presence. If McIntyre were to beat Lesnar, it would have been great to see him celebrate, with the crowd going crazy. An opportunity like this may never come to McIntyre again; performing in the main event, in front of so many people on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
It is also unfortunate for Rhea Ripley, who was getting her moment in front of a jam-packed stadium to defend the NXT women’s championship for the first time in WrestleMania history. Yes, Ripley will still be the first to ever defend an NXT title at WrestleMania, but it is without any fans. Seeing Ripley soak in the moment with a full house in Tampa would have been a cool moment.
It is unclear how this will affect the card. It would be very hard to sit through five hours without any crowd noise. One effect we can see is possibly a smaller card than what we usually see in a WrestleMania show. Currently, there are seven matches scheduled.
The latest additions to the card have been the Undertaker vs. AJ Styles and Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins. Edge vs. Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing will probably become official next week on RAW.
In all honesty, I think WWE should consider postponing WrestleMania until May. As a fan, it is worth the wait just to have the crowd in attendance. I get that they don’t want to drag on storylines, but Vince could probably find a way to make it work. WrestleMania moments will be hard to make without a crowd.
If WWE continues to go with their decision, it will be the first time that WrestleMania will take place with no live audience.
