Deon Bush Resigns with the Chicago Bears

Deon Bush has officially resigned with our beloved home town Chicago Bears. The deal is for one year at 1.4 million. It’s not guaranteed that he will be the starting strong safety, though. At the very least, he will be a valuable special teamer that can fill in for whoever the Bears decide to bring in for competition.

Deon Bush

Back in 2018, former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio singled out Bush as a player that has impressed him the most. And when it comes to defense, not too many people know more than Fangio. That alone should give Bear fans hope that he can be a cheap option to fill one of the more pressing needs for left Chicago. As a career backup, Bush has had a total of 44 tackles and just one sack in his career. But given the opportunity, he should be able to put up bigger and better numbers for the rest of his career.

Competition

The Chicago Bears should still be looking for some competition for Deon Bush through the NFL Draft or Free agency. The free agent that the Bears should still be considering is Vonn Bell. He would be the perfect fit here, but it all depends on how much money he will cost.

The NFL Draft has two players in particular that they should be targeting. One of them is the safety from Southern Illinois, Jeremey Chinn. He was able to hold his own at the Senior Bowl, which was very important for him. Especially because he is coming from a smaller school with lesser competition. The same thing can be said about the next draft target for the Chicago Bears. His name is Kyle Dugger from another small school player from Lenoir-Rhyne. Be on the lookout for those two players as possible draft targets if they aren’t able to sign Safety Vonn Bell in the next few days.
