In each installment of this series, we will take a look at a Baltimore Ravens position group and review it in preparation for the 2020 NFL Draft.
Coming up first in this series will be the most important position group on every team, the Ravens quarterback group.

Lamar Jackson 6’2″, 212 pounds, 15 games
2019 stats– 3127 passing yards, 66.1% completion percentage, 36 passing touchdowns, six interceptions, 1206 rushing yards, seven touchdowns.
Robert Griffin III 6’2″, 213 pounds, seven games
2019 stats– 225 passing yards, 63.1% completion percentage, one passing touchdown, two interceptions, 70 rushing yards.
Trace McSorley 6’0″, 202 pounds, one game
2019 stats– No passes attempted. One rushing yard.
Containing the 2019 season’s reigning Most Valuable Player in Lamar Jackson, the Ravens quarterback room is in very good shape. Jackson dazzled fans and infuriated rivals with his fancy footwork and pinpoint passes on his way to a well-deserved 2019 MVP award. It is hard to imagine what an even more improved Jackson will look like, however, Ravens fans can rest easy knowing Lamar has been working on his craft this offseason with his number one wide receiver, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.
Appearing in limited action all season, Robert Griffin III was mostly used to relieve Jackson at the end of blowout victories. Due to this, his stats do not jump off the page. However, in a week 17 game vs the Steelers, Griffin showed he can still lead a team to victory. Griffin has established himself as the perfect complement to Jackson, both on and off the field. With his behind the scenes leadership, and his willingness to step in whenever called, Griffin is a backup quarterback the Ravens will try to hold on to as long as they are able.
Trace McSorley is the wildcard in the quarterback room. Inactive for 15 out of 16 games, McSorley spent the entire year developing and learning from Jackson and Griffin. It is clear the Ravens drafted McSorley for his potential, so his progress this offseason could be a huge factor in whether the Ravens choose to keep three quarterbacks, or just two heading into the 2020 season.
Heading into the 2020 NFL draft, the group of quarterbacks that the Ravens boast is one of the strongest on the team. It would be a complete shock if the Ravens used any of their nine picks on the quarterback position. The Ravens are set at starter and backup, with a developing backup waiting in the wings. Look for the Ravens to add an undrafted free agent to this group after the draft, simply as a camp arm.
Overall Grade: A-
With the reigning MVP in tow, it would be illogical to grade this group any lower. Lamar Jackson is quickly establishing himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the league. The drop-off behind Jackson is not drastic, however, it is the reason for the minus in the grade. While Griffin was very serviceable in his limited action, it is fair to wonder how sustainable his level of play would be if Jackson were to miss extended playing time for any reason. There were certainly times in the 2019 season when Griffin was in at quarterback and the Ravens offense faltered and failed to produce when needed. Would the Ravens be able to win 10 games with Griffin if Jackson went down early? It is too early to say whether or not McSorley would be a better solution, nevertheless, it is something the Ravens will be exploring at great lengths this offseason.
