UFC Florida Recap and Future Predictions

UFC Florida is over and so concludes the UFC’s 3 event return. UFC Florida was held in the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. This was the same venue as UFC 249 and UFC Jacksonville. This concludes the UFC’s trio of events held in Florida and sadly we will not see another UFC card until May 30th. With the basic information laid out, let’s get into the fights.

Song Yadong defeats Marlon Vera via Controversial Decision

The main card welcomed us with a treat with top bantamweight prospects Song Yadong and Marlon Vera. The bout started slowly as both fighters felt each other out. However, once the second round started, both fighters quickly got on the offensive. It was the same scenario for the third and final round. When it came to the judges however they scored the bout a Unanimous Decision for Song Yadong. The judges scored the bout 29-2 x 3 for Yadong, continuing his 8 fight win streak and ending Vera’s 5 fight win streak. What’s next for the brawling bantamweights?

Krzysztof Jotko shuts down Eryk Anders via Unanimous decision

The second fight was between middleweights Krzysztof Jotko and Eryk Anders. It was fairly uneventful with Anders using his wrestling but to no success which led to Jotko taking advantage of every opening. The judges scored the bout 30-27 and 29-28 x 2. This bout extends Jotko’s streak to 3 and puts a stop to Anders’ streak of 2. What’s next for the fighters?

Dan Ige spoils Edson Barboza’s featherweight debut

From bell to bell Dan Ige and Edson Barboza put on a show as Barboza looked to be successful in his featherweight debut. Ige looked to be the aggressor in the first. However, Barboza was able to catch Ige and controlled the rest of the round. The remainder of the fight was very close and you could score the fight either way. In conclusion, however, the judges scored the bout 29-28 x 2 and 28-29 for Ige. This extends Ige’s win streak to 6 and extends Barboza’s losing streak to 3. Cláudia Gadelha defeats Angela Hill via controversial split decision

This fight was arguably one of the best of the entire card. Both Gadelha and Hill went to war with the combined total of strikes being nearly 400 strikes thrown. The pace was set from the beginning and even looked to speed up in the later rounds. It was a close fight and either woman could have won either way. The judges scored the bout 29-28 x 2 and 28-29 in favor of Gadelha and put her on a 2 win streak and put a stop to Hill’s win-streak of 3. What’s next for the fighters?

Alistair Overeem rallies to finish Walt Harris via TKO

From the beginning, Walt Harris wanted to set the pace and almost finished Alistair Overeem in the first with a knockdown. However, The experience of Overeem shined as Overeem paced himself in contrast to his opponent as Overeem controlled the rest of the starting round. Round 2 was a different story. Overeem now sets the pace due to Harris feeling the tiresome effects of his own blitzkrieg. Overeem knocked Harris with a head kick and finished the fight in the second via TKO. This loss ended Harris’ win-streak of 3. What’s next for the heavyweights?
