Patrick Chung Agrees to Two-Year Extension

Patrick Chung, a former New England Patriots second round draft pick and member of three of the Patriots’ Super Bowl wins, signs a two-year extension with the Patriots.

The Deal With Chung

Chung will receive a $3 million signing bonus as part of the two-year extension deal. The Patriots create $925,000 in space, which will be needed for the signing of safety Kyle Dugger. Dugger was the Patriots’ first draft pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, so the Patriots need to sign him. In addition to Chung’s $3 million signing bonus, he will receive a $1.1 million base salary in 2020. He may have the chances to earn $800,000 in per-game roster bonuses, as well as a $100,000 workout bonus. If Chung decides to play past the 2020 season with the Patriots, the deal will change a little. The new deal will have the same structure in 2021, 2022, and 2023. The base salaries would be $1.9 million each year. He will have chances to earn $400,000 in per-game roster bonuses, $200,000 in incentives, and a $100,000 workout bonus.

What This Means for the New England Patriots

Patrick Chung is a veteran cornerback who has won three Super Bowls with the Patriots. Chung has a great ability to play closer to the line of scrimmage and match up with opposing tight ends, which provides flexibility that Bill Belichick values. This two-year extension gives the Patriots the salary-cap space to sign second-round pick Kyle Dugger.
