Zion Williamson Leaves the Orlando Bubble

Pelicans’ forward rookie sensation Zion Williamson has left the Orlando bubble to tend to an urgent family medial matter. The phenom reportedly plans on returning to Orlando in time for the official NBA Restart.

Zion’s departure was first reported Thursday morning before 10:30 a.m. by Shams via twitter.

New Orleans Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin fully supports his rising super star’s decision.

“We fully support Zion’s decision to leave the NBA campus to be with his family. Out of respect for the Williamson family, we will have no further comment at this time.”

It has since been stated that Zion suffered from leg cramps earlier in the week and was forced to miss parts of team practice before leaving the bubble on Thursday.

Sources say Zion is “fine” and the cramps were “not an issue.” Only time will tell if the events of this week were related.

The 6’8 power forward averaged 23.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game during his 19 regular season games with the Pelicans.

Clearly, Zion Williamson is expected to be the face of the franchise for many years to come. However, if his absence from the Orlando bubble extends past the league restart, it could all but demolish the Pelicans’ chances at a playoff run this season.
