MLB Roundup: Tinder Swipes that tell the Story

Back again with the MLB Roundup! If you missed any of the action of week one, click here to catch-up. This week’s recap will use the tinder style approach, swiping right on the good, left on the bad, and up on the great. The Roundup will use the same approach as the Tinder-Styled MLB Season Preview to recap the big news of the week.

So without further ado, the week-two MLB Roundup!

Christian Vazquez

Kudos to any MLB fan that had Red Sox catcher, Christian Vazquez, tied for American League lead in home runs. Throughout the first weeks of the season, Vazquez has been one of the few bright spots in Boston. Coming into his match-up with the Yankees on Sunday Night Baseball, the long-time Red Sox catcher is hitting .333 with four long-balls.

Although the Red Sox have struggled early in the season, Vazquez has come out of the gates hot. A surprise start from the catcher of a struggling team may not break headlines, but it deserves a swipe right!

Tyler Chatwood

If you were to tell Cubs fans at the end of last year that Tyler Chatwood would prove himself to be a #3 option in the starting rotation, they would call you insane. But here we are two starts into the veteran Cub’s starter. Chatwood has won his first two starts of 2020, and has an ERA of less than 1.00. I am loving the reinvented Chatwood’s start to the season, so much so that I am swiping up on the Cubs starter.

Alex Bregman, George Springer, and Jose Altuve

Is there an option to super dislike? Because what the Astros’ trio is showing us, is that they do need some trash can banging to produce offensively. Each one of Bregman, Springer, and Altuve are hitting under the Mendoza line, and have a combined 21 strikeouts. If the Astros were not already getting a swipe left for their slow start, this trio deserves a swipe left.

Trevor Story and the Colorado Rockies

The Rockies have come out of the gates hot and that is much in part to the production of their shortstop, Trevor Story. Coming into Sunday’s match-up against another NL West surprise team in the Padres, Story’s average of .474 and his four home runs have led the Rockies out to their strong start. With Story’s production leading the way for an impressive Rockies start, it is more than deserving of a swipe up.

Aaron Judge

All Rise! Coming into Sunday Night Baseball against the rival Red Sox, Judge has homered in four straight games. He is back to being healthy and producing in one of the game’s best offenses. I am ‘super liking’ the hot stretch of the young Bronx Bomber.

Kyle Lewis

Some may call Kyle Lewis the forgotten ROY, some may call him a shocking start, I will just call the Mariners rookie what he is, a stud! The young Mariners outfielder has been a huge bat in what has been a surprising Seattle offense. As we head into week three of action, the rookie bat is hitting a whopping .444 with an impressive slugging percentage of .611. That production out of anyone is worth a swipe right, let alone a rookie!

The Mets Bullpen

Edwin Diaz and Dellin Betances are not living up to expectations out in the Big Apple. Coming into Sunday’s match-up in Atlanta, Betances has an ERA of 21.60 and has given up three home runs. While Diaz has already blown one save and has surrendered one homer this season. On paper, this bullpen looks to be one of the best in the league. But games are not played on paper, and this bullpen has struggled mightily, which makes for an easy swipe left.

Highlights that Deserve a Swipe Right

Looking Ahead

Los Angeles Dodgers @ San Diego Padres

The NL West has proven to be a three-horse race throughout the beginning of the season. The Dodgers, Padres, and Rockies have all shown to be the best in the west. Looking ahead, we get to watch two of the top three teams in the west face off for a three-game set barring any cancellations.

Cincinnati Reds @ Milwaukee Brewers

Assuming Brewers baseball is back at the end of next week, we as fans will get to enjoy a three game set over next weekend. Even with the news of Lorenzo Cain’s opting out, two of the more exciting line-ups face off in Milwaukee.

**Chicago Cubs @ St. Louis Cardinals

Another NL Central match-up occurs late next week as well, this one is one of the more storied rivalries in the MLB. Be sure to tune in to two NL Central favorites facing off! There needs to be an asterisk by this one. Earlier today it was announced that “multiple” Cards’ players are now infected with COVID-19, putting this series in jeopardy.

Cincinnati Reds @ Cleveland Indians

Another big time match-up comes in the great state of Ohio. Two teams in a race to be atop of their respective divisions face off starting Monday.

Toronto Blue Jays @ Atlanta Braves

The Jays may not be favorites to win the AL East, but if you want to watch the game’s future, be sure to tune into this series. Starting Tuesday, fans get to watch the game’s youngest and brightest stars face off!

Final Word: What the Hell is Going on with the Mets?

Yoenis Cespedes decided that Sunday’s game against Atlanta was just not for him. Can we blame him? The Mets start to the season has been sub-par. Coming into Sunday’s game they have a 3-6 record and their free agency signings have not lived up to their expectations. Maybe Cespedes wanted a break from the bad action. Maybe he was not feeling the best, and if that is the case, thank the Lord that he did not show, take note Marlins. But as we sit currently at 1:30 PM ET on Sunday, we have no idea what is going on with the Mets, however, Cespedes is now reported to not be in any danger.
