There appears to be absolutely no quit in Antonio Silva, as ‘Bigfoot’ will have his third fight, in just over four months. The former UFC and Strikeforce heavyweight star is booked for a kickboxing match against a dangerous opponent in Zabit Samedov. The “Superfight” is expected to take place on September 10, live from Samedov’s home town in Azerbaijan, Baku.
Zabit Samedov"s unstoppable run
Samedov currently boasts an incredible record of 102-9-1, and hasn"t been defeated since he met Badr Hari 2013. Samedov isn"t letting age slow him down either. The 38 year old ‘Mowgli" now has finishes in his last 20 fights.
Since transitioning from MMA to kickboxing in 2003, ‘Mowgli" has been a wrecking ball, destroying nearly every man in his path. In his last outing, Samedov took care of business when he finished Didier Kilola at ACA 130. With victories over the likes of Pat Berry, Melvin Manhoef and Magomed Magomedov, it"s easy to see why Samedov is one of the most feared kickboxers today.
Antonio Silva winless in last 10 fights
Silva has not seen victory in over seven years, as his last win came over Soa Palelei in 2015. Since UFC 190, things have been down right scary for the big Brazilian. At 42 years old, ‘Bigfoot" has lost his last ten bouts. Fights that have been spread across MMA, boxing, and kickboxing have Silva being finished in nine of those ten bouts.
‘Bigfoot" arguably had his scariest moment in combat sports during his last outing. A boxing match against Vyacheslav Datsyk left a foul taste in many fans mouths, as the Brazilian was out cold on his feet. The referee was forced to save the big guy, who showed enormous heart.
Pleads for Bigfoot"s Retirement
Many people close to ‘Bigfoot" have pleaded with the big man to call it a career, but those requests continue go unanswered. Even former manager Alex Davis could not get through to Antonio Silva.
After ‘Bigfoot"s" last loss, Davis tweeted; “You cannot defend a man from his own self. I did my very best." says Davis. “The plan was for him to stop fighting 8 ko"s ago. He made the $. I let go at that point, could not be a part of this." Continues Davis. “But he [Silva] always goes in with a big heart, and never reminisces on a loss."
When questioned whether Silva was booking himself for these fights, Davis simply answered “I really do not know. I do not want anything to do with this. No $ would be enough."
Daunting words from a former manager, and friend. As of late, Antonio Silva has been forced out of the USA to fight. With his last several fights taking place in Russia, it"s evident that ‘Bigfoot" will essentially never be cleared to fight under Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC).
