With less than two weeks to go before the NFL trade deadline, rumors have been swirling. These are some of the biggest names on the trade block.
Cam Newton
Let’s start with former MVP winner Cam Newton. Newton was sidelined early in the year with an injury which led to back up Kyle Allen getting to start. So far he has started off 4-0. The Panthers have proved that they can win without Newton so it makes sense to move him for assets. One team that is showing interest is the team that beat him in Super Bowl 50, the Denver Broncos. The Flacco experiment is not working and it is too early to start Drew Lock. Because the Broncos restructured Flacco’s contract, a trade for Newton would involve Flacco and some picks.
Stefon Diggs
Multiple star wide outs could be on the move soon. Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs is one of the. He has voiced is frustration towards the Vikings and multiple teams are interested. The team that makes the most sense is the Green Bay Packers. The Packers are off to a hot start this season but they have struggled offensively. That’s in large part due to Aaron Rodgers receivers dropping passes left and right. When Rodgers gets Davante Adams back the offense will improve, however with the addition of Diggs this offense has the potential to explode and will make the Packers serious contenders.
Emmanuel Sanders
The Broncos have had a pretty bad start to the season so far and it’s obvious they are not going to win many games with the team they have now. If the Broncos end up selling before the deadline expect Emmanuel Sanders to be on the move. The teams that make the most sense are the Patriots and the 49ers. Both teams have dominated so far this season but that’s been because of their defense. If either of these teams could land Sanders their offense will receive a nice boost and increase their Super Bowl stock.
Trent Williams
There is an odd situation going on in Washington involving left tackle Trent Williams who is fed up with his organization. He has held out from playing for the entire year so far and the relationship with his team is irreparable. It doesn’t make sense why Washington is holding on to him and his value is decreasing each week. The team that makes the most sense in a trade is the Cleveland Browns. The Browns o-line has been awful all year putting quarterback Baker Mayfield under constant pressure. The Redskins are obviously rebuilding and could use young talent. The Browns can supply that with tight end David Njoku. Haskins will be the starter next year and it never hurts to give a young QB talent to throw to. It would be a win-win for both sides.
Mohamed Sanu and Vic Beasley
In Atlanta, things are not great. The Falcons are currently 1-6 and struggling on both sides of the ball. It looks like they will be sellers at the deadline. There are two players the Falcons are looking to trade, Mohamed Sanu and Vic Beasley. Multiple teams could use a wide out like Sanu and the Falcons could get a mid-round pick in return. Beasley is a good linebacker, but he is an expensive player to have when you’re 1-6. If the Falcons can move him their salary cap will increase dramatically and they could get a couple of draft choices in return.
Closure on NFL Trade Rumors
None of these trade rumors are set in stone and there will be many other players finding new homes before the deadline. The NFL is a crazy league and a lot can happen between now and October 29th.
