Chicago Cubs: Time to Move on From Kyle Schwarber

The Chicago Cubs made the decision to allow left-handed slugger Kyle Schwarber to hit free agency this offseason. Even though he has failed to reach his full potential, he will always be a name that is dear to Cubs fans, however, this could have been the last time he is with the Chicago Cubs.

Quite a few teams are going to line up with interest in Schwarber. Among them could be the New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, Minnesota Twins, and more. Schwarber may have consistency issues, but the power he brings to the plate is attractive.

Could Chicago look to re-sign him? There is some level of mutual interest, according to a report from Jordan Bastian of MLB.com.

Last season with the Cubs, Schwarber ended up with just a .188 batting average to go along with 11 home runs and 24 RBI"s. Back in the 2019 season, Schwarber batted .250 with 38 home runs and 92 RBI"s.

At just 27 years old, Schwarber still has plenty of baseball left in him. He may never become the superstar that many thought he would be, but there is still a chance.

Should The Cubs Look To Re-Sign Schwarber?

Now, it"s time to answer the question. Jed Hoyer is now in charge of decisions with Theo Epstein stepping down. He will look to change up the roster, but do they believe enough in Schwarber to try to bring him back?

Many Chicago fans are hoping that the answer is yes. Schwarber has endeared himself to Chicago fans and just like the report above states, Schwarber is somewhat of a Cubs" legend.

Despite his status as a fan-favorite and a legend of this era for the franchise, the Cubs need to move on. Schwarber simply hasn"t been consistent enough at the plate. Chicago needs to re-tool a bit if they want to get back to being a serious championship contender.

Kyle Schwarber is going to land with a good team this offseason. In all honesty, the Yankees seem like a good bet. They have had a ton of trade interest in him over the last couple of years.

No matter where he ends up, it will be a good situation. An American League team seems ideal with the DH role open. He played in left field with the Cubs, but there were quite a few times that he simply wasn"t athletic enough and big plays happened because of it.

If the Cubs do decide to re-sign Schwarber, it wouldn"t be a mistake, however, making some changes is necessary. That was apparent throughout the course of the strange 2020 MLB season.

Expect to see Kyle Schwarber end up with another organization this offseason. The Cubs know that change is needed and they didn"t tender Schwarber for a reason.
