Jake Paul vs. Nate Diaz Official for Aug. 5th Boxing Bout

It is finally happening after years of speculation and drama between the two. Jake Paul will face off against Nate Diaz in a boxing bout on August 5th at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas per Marc Raimondi of ESPN.

The bout is to be contested at 185 pounds and is contracted for eight rounds with 10-ounce gloves. The fight will be a PPV on DAZN, distributed globally for fans across the world.

The bout will be a huge step up in weight for the former UFC star Nate Diaz who typically competed at 155 and 170 lbs. Jake Paul has competed north of 180 lbs. for the majority of his boxing career.

This bout has been a long time coming, especially heating up last year when Paul’s team and Diaz’s team got into an altercation during the Paul vs. Anderson Silva boxing bout in October. Paul went on to challenge Diaz to a bout in his post-fight interview after defeating Silva.

Paul (6-1) suffered his first defeat earlier this year to Tommy Fury (Tyson Fury’s younger brother) by a split decision. Paul will be looking to add a fourth former MMA fighter to his win list (Silva, Woodley, and Askren) with a win over Diaz. Diaz (21-13 MMA) on the other hand is coming off of his UFC departure after fighting out his contract by defeating Tony Ferguson by submission at UFC 279.

Diaz explained his decision and plans, saying “Besides Canelo, he’s (Paul) the biggest thang in boxing. I’m here to conquer that. I’m the King of combat sports and then I’m headed back to get my UFC belts. I f***** up Conor for acting out and now here I am again, like a Super Hero of the Real Fight game, the King of the Real Fight game.” A UFC return may be on the table for Diaz but first on his list is dealing with “The Problem Child” Paul.

Paul explained why he wanted Diaz, saying “Now, the world thinks I am vulnerable when all I am is more focused than ever. My team wanted me to take an easy fight like KSI next, but that’s not how I am built. Nate Diaz is considered one of the most bada** fighters of all time, but he and his team have been running their mouths for too long.”

It is reported that the event will be a 50/50 split between Paul’s- Most Valuable Promotions and Diaz’s- Real Fight Inc. It will be the first time Diaz has ever promoted himself and his first career professional boxing match. There are no other bouts announced for the card as of this moment but be sure to check back for any updates and news on the situation.
