ONE on Prime Video 9 Main Event Breakdown

The second night of a jam-packed combat sports weekend sees ONE Championship return to its North American streaming home of Amazon Prime Video for ONE on Prime Video 9. Outside of North America, Friday’s card will be available on ONE’s official Website as a pay-per-view under the alternate title ONE Fight Night 9.

Live coverage of ONE on Prime Video 9 begins with the undercard Friday night at 7 pm ET/ 4 pm PT on the official ONE Championship YouTube and Facebook pages. Action shifts exclusively to Amazon Prime at 8 pm ET/ 5 pm PT.

All told, barring any postponed fights between now and Friday night, this week"s show will feature 10 bouts from Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, where it will already be Saturday morning. Unlike most ONE on Prime Video cards, an MMA fight won"t serve as the focus for the ONE on Prime Video 9 main event.

ONE Bantamweight Muay-Thai Championship in ONE on Prime Video 9 Main Event

If you tune into Amazon Prime on Friday night, you"re going to be treated to a bantamweight (145 lbs.) Muay-Thai title bout in the ONE on Prime Video 9 main event. Incumbent champion Nong-O-Hama (265-54-10 Muay-Thai, 10-0 ONE Championship), also known as Nong-O Gaiyanghadao puts his title on the line when he meets former ONE Flyweight Champion (and current No. 5 contender) Jonathan Haggerty (20-4 Muay Thai, 5-2 ONE Championship) for the strap.

As with all Muay-Thai championships, the ONE on Prime Video 9 is an advertised maximum of five rounds at three minutes per round to close the show.

ONE on Prime Video 9 Main Event Fighter Comparison

Heading into the ONE on Prime Video 9 main event on Friday night, both of these men stand level in height at 5-foot-7. Jonathan Haggerty owns a 4.7-inch reach advantage (72.4 inches to 67.7 inches) over Nong O-Hama.

Ordinarily, at this point in the breakdown, we would mention who has the advantage on the money line according to the oddsmakers. No such information has been released as of press time. If you plan on betting on this or any other fight happening over the weekend, please wager responsibly.

Nong-O Hama Hungry for Knockout in ONE on Prime Video 9 Main Event

Champion Nong-O Hama has posted a record of 5-0 in his last five Muay-Thai fights as part of an ongoing 10-fight winning streak in the sport. All of those wins have come under the ONE banner after his three-year hiatus from competition between 2015 and 2018.

All five of his most recent wins have been via knockout, including his last one (body punch) in the third round of his Jan. 20 fight versus Alaverdi Ramazanov (13-10 Muay-Thai, 6-5 ONE Championship) during the inaugural ONE Friday Fights event on YouTube. The champ won"t settle for anything less than a knockout on Friday night.

“In the five previous fights, I won by KO," Nong-O said. “And in the upcoming one, I am determined to get a bonus from Chatri [Sityodtong, ONE Chairman and CEO]. I will knock Jonathan Haggerty out, and I will do my best for my Thai fans. I will keep this belt among Thai people in Thailand. No one can take it away from me. I"m not going to lose this World Championship until I retire."

When Nong-O fights, he makes certain that the judges are not a factor in the final decision. Will that hold true in the ONE on Prime Video 9 main event on Friday?

Haggerty Fighting For Bantamweight Championship Ahead of Schedule

In the other corner, Jonathan Haggerty has posted a record of 4-1 in his last five fights and is presently on a three-fight winning streak ahead of the ONE on Prime Video 9 main event on Friday. Most recently, he scored a majority decision victory on Nov. 18, 2022 against Vladimir Kuzmin (1-2 ONE Championship) during ONE on Prime Video 4.

During a recent interview with the promotion, Haggerty mentioned that he was surprised by the booking for Friday"s headliner.

“I wasn"t expecting to get the World Title shot straight away," he said. “I thought we were going to have one more fight. But obviously, they decided it was my turn and there was only one man for the job– and they thought that was me. I wouldn"t say I was the only option, but I"d say I"m the most dangerous fight that he"s going to come across. I"ve been looking forward to getting that second World Title. It"s here now, and I"ve got to grab it with both hands."

It goes without saying that the ONE on Prime Video 9 main event is Jonathan Haggerty"s most important fight to-date. Only time will tell if it"s his biggest win.

Analysis, Film Study, and Prediction

Stylistically, the ONE on Prime Video 9 main event is a dead heat, given that both fighters are kickboxers. Whose punches will be crisper?

Watch For Nong-O"s Body Shots

Nong-O has been known to score the knockout throughout his career. His January win against Ramazanov is another textbook example. Midway the third round of a scheduled five, Nong-O repeatedly pieced Ramazanov with a barrage of punches and kicks.

With about a minute to go in the round, Nong-O sat Ramazanov down with a punch to the body. The referee administered the 10-count, but Ramazanov couldn"t stand up in time.

If Nong-O Hama can land punches in bunches, he can defend the championship again.

Haggerty Brutal With Combos

In the other corner, Jonathan Haggerty can get the job done by landing combinations of strikes. Back in November of 2021, he fought Arthur Meyer for the ISKA Muay-Thai Lightweight World Championship. During the second round of the fight, Meyer faltered when tried to throw punches in the early going, giving Haggerty the opening to land an elbow.

Upon the referee breaking up a clinch, Jonathan Haggerty landed a two-punch combination to knock Arthur Meyer out cold.

If Haggerty"s able to score the combos, the ONE on Prime Video 9 main event"s going to be a short fight.

Final Thoughts

Not much more needs to be said about this headliner except: Make that snack run before the ONE on Prime Video 9 main event begins. If you make your sandwich and grab your drink after it starts, you might miss everything.

Prediction: Nong-O Hama by Second-Round Knockout.
