Well, the season is now officially in jeopardy. With everything going on with the Marlins, it was only a matter of time before the next domino fell. Prior to that the Marlins’ issues, the Nationals had them, as did the Pirtates. Two members of the Phillies staff have now tested positive for the coronavirus, and the MLB season appears to be hanging on by a thread. These two new positive tests are believed to be a coaching staff member as well as a member of the home clubhouse staff.

News also broke today that another member of the Marlins has tested positive. This now brings their total to 17 players and two members of the coaching staff. The Marlins and Phillies have not played since this past Sunday. The Phillies were set to return to the field tomorrow for a double header with the Blue Jays. However, with these new tests this appears to be in serious doubt. It has been announced that Citizens Bank Park has been closed until further notice.
Another Marlins player has tested positive for COVID-19, but the team anticipated this result from its contact tracing, a source tells The Athletic. Latest positive case brings team totals to 17 players and two coaches, though one of the coaches has since tested negative.

Without much of a direct plan in place, something like this felt inevitable to happen. While no Phillies’ players have tested positive, it is still incredibly concerning that members of their staff have now contracted the coronavirus. If MLB fails to contain this outbreak, the season may be over before it even truly began.
