Just announced, Georges St-Pierre will return to active competition later this year in December to compete at UFC’s Fight Pass Invitational: 6.

"Rush" Is Back

Brendan Fitzgerald (UFC Commentator and Host) announced on part of the UFC that Georges St-Pierre will compete at the UFC’s Fight Pass Invitational: 6 on December 14th. The announcement was made before the Pre-Fight Press Conference for UFC 290.

Fitzgerald said, “I’m here on behalf of UFC Fight Pass this afternoon, we have a very special announcement and we’re breaking news, the media doesn’t know about it, you fans don’t know about it. But we’re very excited about it of course for UFC Fight Pass, they just had the Fight Pass Invitational and had got into the live event space for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and live grappling, very successful, you can go back and watch the replays. Anthony Smith just grappled Glover Teixeira, so there’s some big UFC names. The next event is coming up in September, and after that, the Fight Pass Invitational in December will feature the return of a legend and that is the announcement today, making his way back to competition in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the Fight Pass Invitational later this year, welcome to the stage, Georges St-Pierre.”

GSP then took the stage to say, “Oh yeah, it’s good to be back, thank you guys.” St-Pierre then gave his thoughts on his return, “I’m very excited, I’m in great shape and it’s fun. I’m happy to be a part of it, the UFC is going to take the sport to a different level. I’m glad to be part of it, professional submission wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu.” St-Pierre then spoke on his reasoning for his return, he said, “First, I’m always in shape, I’m in great shape and competing in professional submission wrestling/Jiu-Jitsu- it’s very serious competition but the risks are to a minimum for someone in my position, it’s great, I’m 42 years old. I felt at the end when I retired, I was training but I needed, you know I like the kick of competition, I like to get it back, I like to feel the adrenaline again. I think it’s also an avenue for fighters who still want to compete, to make money, and to have fun with the fans and the family of the UFC.” For more on the announcement, you can watch the video below. There is currently no opponent announced for St-Pierre at the time of this writing.

GSP is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters of all time, if not the greatest. St-Pierre retired with a record of 26-2 in MMA and went 20-2 throughout his UFC career.

A list of some of GSP’s accomplishments includes:

  • Class of 2020 UFC Hall of Fame Inductee
  • One-time UFC Middleweight Champion
  • Two-time UFC Welterweight Champion
  • Nine Title Defenses as Welterweight Champion
  • Most UFC Welterweight Title Fights (14)
  • Most Wins in UFC Welterweight Title Fights (12)
  • Third Most Consecutive Title Defenses in UFC History (9)
  • Fourth Multi-Divisional Champion in UFC History
  • Most Takedowns Landed in UFC History (90)

St-Pierre created his legacy by dispatching many great MMA fighters and legends throughout his career, such as Matt Hughes (twice), Matt Serra, B.J. Penn, Jon Fitch, Dan Hardy, Jake Shields, Carlos Condit, Nick Diaz, etc. GSP took a hiatus from MMA competition following his Split-Decision victory over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in November 2013. After three years away from the Octagon, St-Pierre returned at UFC 217 in November 2017 to challenge Michael Bisping for the Middleweight title, GSP was victorious in his efforts and defeated Bisping via. Submission in the third round. St-Pierre retired with a 13-fight win streak. GSP was forced to relinquish the title shortly after winning it and retire due to a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis.
