Could Jake Paul vs. Nate Diaz Be Just the Beginning of a Two-Part Series?

Earlier in the day news broke that Jake Paul and Nate Diaz will fight in boxing on August 5th in Dallas, Texas. You can find more info on that here but I recall doing an article on Jake Paul’s PFL signing and the video that Paul posted and now, I think we’re just getting started with the boxing bout.

This Is Only Part One of the Story

PFL‘s tweet jogged my memory as I recall Paul mentioning he had offered Nate Diaz a two-fight deal, first in boxing and then MMA under the PFL brand.

Paul said, “I’m so dedicated to this that I offered Nate Diaz a two-fight deal. First, we box, then six months later we fight MMA in the PFL smart cage and lay it all on the line.” Paul then questioned Diaz’s bravery, “If that’s not balls then I don’t know what is. Nate Diaz, I’m down to fight you in your own d*** sport. It’s a two-fight deal, let’s make it happen.”

So, could this be Part One of the story between Paul and Diaz, if Paul’s words are true then possibly, we see Diaz vs. Paul in MMA around February next year under the PFL banner. Nate Diaz is certainly not one to shy away from welcoming Paul to MMA or boxing. Look at the tweets below for instance, “Jake Paul you need your a** beat for free, you spoiled f***, you can’t really fight dumb s***. (You’re) gonna end up with your a** whooped for real somewhere talking like that.”

Paul (6-1 Boxing) will be looking to add a fourth former MMA fighter to his win list with a win over Diaz. Paul is currently undefeated in Boxing against former MMA fighters, he first defeated Ben Askren by KO in round one, then he followed up by defeating Tyron Woodley twice, the first bout was a split decision while the second was a sixth-round KO win for Paul. “The Problem Child” followed up his success by defeating Anderson Silva by unanimous decision. Paul then suffered his first defeat earlier this year to Tommy Fury by a split decision.

Diaz (21-13 MMA) on the other hand is coming off of his UFC departure after fighting out his contract by defeating Tony Ferguson by submission at UFC 279, It is reported that the event will be a 50/50 split between Paul’s- Most Valuable Promotions and Diaz’s- Real Fight Inc. It will be the first time Diaz has ever promoted himself and his first career professional boxing match after spending the last 15 years with the UFC going 16-11 in the promotion. It will certainly be different to see Diaz in boxing gloves rather than MMA, but if Paul is telling the truth, perhaps we see Diaz going back to MMA to welcome Jake Paul to the MMA world under the PFL, only time will tell. There are always contractual and legal agreements to keep in mind when regarding this.

Do you think Paul and Diaz will square off in the PFL cage after their boxing bout in August, who wins if it does indeed happen? Let us know in the comments below!
